“Cochlear implantation in patients with unilateral deaf-ness and asymmetric hearing loss”
Patients with asymmetric hearing loss can be treated with conventional CROS/BiCROS hearing aids, bone-anchored hearing systems (BAHS), or a cochlear implant.
Our aim was to demonstrate the successful binaural bimodal rehabilitation of asymmetric hearing loss with CI in the poorer ear and hearing aid in the better ear – compared to CROS/BiCROS, BAHS, and monaural hearing with hearing aid in the better ear only.
Our results confirm indication for this bimodal therapy, and evidence that this therapy is superior to the other options. These findings are of specific importance also for the hearing aid acoustician when counselling patients with asymmetric hearing loss.
