“EasyView Otoblock: Innovative new Otoblock enables deeper impression taking”
Ear anatomy is unique. Therefore full information extending beyond the second bend is required for optimum custom products. While standard otoblock (SOB) material is opaque, EasyView Otoblocks (EVOB) utilise a hollow seal and an angled window enabling eardrum visualisation during placement using an otoscope. Forty-four clinicians took impressions of the same ear using a SOB and an EVOB. Results show on average 3.2 mm longer impressions with EVOB. Improvements were greatest for those taking shorter impressions with SOBs.
Ear impression taking is arguably one of the most invasive procedures hearing healthcare professionals perform in their daily work. Moreover, the trend towards a greater number of open fittings means less ear impressions are being taken. Standard otoblocks (SOBs) are made from opaque materials, preventing a view of the eardrum during insertion. For those taking impressions infrequently, this may influence confidence in placing the otoblock past the second bend. However, because ear anatomy is unique, full information of the pinna and ear canal extending beyond the second bend is crucial for optimum shell production.
